Angel Spotlight: Angels From Abroad

The Village would not be the same without the amazing volunteer Angels that so generously donate their time each day to make the experience for our wish families so wonderful. Recently, Give Kids The World welcomed two new Angels who traveled all the way from Germany with the sole purpose of spending an entire year volunteering at GKTW. Read the full story on our blog.

Volunteer Position: Katie's Kitchen

The Katie’s Kitchen Volunteers are responsible for taking food orders, utilizing a computerized order system, packaging orders for pick-up and delivering food orders to guest villas using a golf cart. Duties also include maintaining food-service standards set forth by Boston Market, set up and minimal clean up.

My son said that he never felt so special anywhere else and he wasn't even the "wish" child.
  • 04/28/2013 - Rachel (V182)
You took all of our worries away for one week -- we felt like a normal family.

We wish the rest of the world was as accessible as GKTW.
  • 04/13/2013 - Lily (V293)

  • 04/10/2013 - Santiago (V229)
My son called the Village his "Disney home." He enjoyed the time at the Village more than Disney itself because he met all the characters here and had endless carousel rides.
  • 04/10/2013 - Anstin (V253)
Every day had a new activity and the staff and volunteers treated us with special care. Thank you for the wonderful evening activities. A fun way to end each day.
  • 04/09/2013 - Elizabeth (V257)
I want to thank everyone for letting us feel special and feel normal for one week. It is nice to see Elizabeth enjoy and breathe the magic this Village brought to her.
  • 04/08/2013 - Jonathan (V256)
When someone describes how Heaven is going to be, they are describing Give Kids The World.
  • 04/07/2013 - Keegan (V283)
The kids cried to leave Disney and other parks to come back to the Village, which says so much about how magical this place is!
  • 04/06/2013 - Katie (V293)
Katie was included in all activities all the time. She's wheelchair bound and this rarely happens in the real world.
  • 04/05/2013 - Sarah (V287)
We were in shock the first two days due to how nice people were to Sarah and rest of us. We had the time of our lives.
  • 04/01/2013 - Hannah (V290)
The volunteers were the best. You can tell how much they love what they do. It was their smilings faces that made the stay.
  • 03/31/2013 - Toonijha (V119)
GKTW is a blissful, magical home away from home. Feeling loved and being part of a huge loving family.

  • 03/26/2013 - Jacob (V116)
We had a better time here than we had at the main theme parks. Everyone was on point from food service to operating the train. An answer to every question.
  • 03/26/2013 - Connie (V264)
Connie is normally a shy child, but she was made to feel very much "at ease" here and that is due to the GKTW team.
  • 03/21/2013 - Stella (V217)
Stella wanted to leave Disney for the Village parties. Halloween was our favorite.

It was so nice that everyone included the siblings. All were treated with the same love and happiness.

  • 03/16/2013 - Marco (V265)
The chance to be normal instead of different!
  • 03/14/2013 - Michael (V222)
The customer service was one in a million. It was awesome. Everyone has friendly and they treated each individual special.

You all have included any and everything kids love and want -- singing, dancing, characters, cookies, ice cream, horses and much more!

  • 02/18/2013 - Jacob (V129)
The one thing that was most enjoyable for my son was the Carousel ride because not many have wheelchair access. He never wanted to get off.
  • 02/14/2013 - Sydney (V239)
Staff and volunteers were amazing, but the Guest Assistance Pass was the best thing ever. With it, we truly got the royal treatment.

  • 02/09/2013 - Sophia (V265)
Really well done activites that put many tears of joy in parents' eyes (including ours). Huge thumbs up for the tuck in!

All the money in the world could not buy the great feeling you get when you stay here. We are truly blessed to have experienced it.
  • 02/02/2013 - William (V182)
William extremely enjoyed Mayor Clayton's tuck in. It made his week, he will never forget it!
  • 02/01/2013 - Rebecca (V260)

  • 02/01/2013 - Jack (V130)
The puppet show at the princess tea party was hysterical, we couldn't stop laughing. And the princesses were very sweet.
  • 01/31/2013 - Amichai (V250)
When arriving at the gate and greeted "Welcome Home" each time describes the picture - an amazing, comfortable, spacious home away from home.
  • 01/28/2013 - Justin (V124)
The Village Guide Book was amazing. We traveled to and from the Village in a city we are not familiar with and never got lost once.
  • 12/30/2012 - Jordan (V255)
It was an emotional trip for all of us. Jordan can't wait to come back and volunteer.
  • 12/02/2012 - Kevin (V101)
We never dreamed that we would be able to travel anywhere with Kevin. We haven't had a vacation in 11 years. You make it wonderful. We felt like kids again.
  • 11/24/2012 - Finn (V243)
As amazing as our time was, it has made us evaluate our own lives. We head back home very humbled at the generosity and smiles of others.
  • 10/30/2012 - Sean (V136)
The one thing that stood out big time was the young volunteers. The school kids should be so proud of themselves and so should the parents.
  • 10/13/2012 - Maggie Mae (V223)
Food services were great - couldn't even carry my own tray!
  • 09/26/2012 - Destiny (V214)
The feeling of being at home. Staying in a new place can be unsettling; at GKTW, everything says "your home".
  • 09/15/2012 - Joleen (V187)
The special thing in all of this is the fact that I got to spend time having fun and laughing with my children.
  • 08/29/2012 - Umar (V108)
The general friendliness of all the staff. This attitude made us feel our presence in the village was very welcomed.
  • 08/28/2012 - Trenton (V234)
From beginning to end our Family received first class treatment. Several times when I thanked volunteers, they said "no, thank you, it is my privilege to do this for you."

Our children loved being able to "fast pass" at the theme parks.

Every child-wish child and siblings-are all treated as the most special child in the village.

  • 08/18/2012 - Faith (V238)
Faith is almost 4 and this is the first time all four of us were together outside a hospital just having fun.

Give Kids the World makes us feel like we are at home and are part of their family.

  • 07/31/2012 - Owen (V241)
I can't say enough (again) about the characters. How great and stress free to have them at the Village.

It meant so much for us to be told by an older gentleman that we, as parents, are special and loved just as much as our kids.
  • 07/23/2012 - Sadie (V230)
I really enjoyed tuck in with Mayor Clayton, his playful energy made all of us smile from ear to ear.

We ordered a lot from Katie's Kitchen. Service was great!

Not only did you make Payten's stay special, you all included the other kiddos and made them feel special also.

I believe the Village must have a lot of people praying for it because we sensed such peace there.
  • 05/11/2012 - Rosemary (V258)
Coming home every day to the genuine joy and giving hearts of the Village Staff and Volunteers.
  • 04/27/2012 - Michelle (V124)
